Hormones Out Of Whack

1.30.2013

Blogs are helpful. Let me tell you the many reasons why they are helpful.

  • You can make new friends. Blogger friends. That you may or may not ever actually see in real life. I am lucky enough to have met a handful since I live in Utah (aka. Blogger Capital of the World) but to all my friends that live in a different state, I wish us luck in meeting.
  • I always have someone to talk to. Either responding to a comment or leaving a comment.
  • Sometimes you get free stuff. Which is awesome.
  • My head is a lot more clear because everything I feel cluttered in there goes into a blog post... and then you have to try and decipher it.
  • You can learn a lot from other blogs. Cooking, crafting, fashion, makeup.... all sorts of things.
  • Self esteem boost. Whats up 600 followers that I don't even know but somehow you are reading all about my life... you are awesome.
  • And the final way... which brings me to the importance of my post... a blog can help you realize when your hormones need to be checked.
How did I know my hormones needed to be checked? Besides my insomnia, weight gain, mood swings, and headaches.... my blog helped me figure it out. How you ask? Because I used to be funny. I used to be put into any situation and I could make it funny. Whether it was getting my hair cut, getting an extremely awkward security check, reliving my dating past, or having a claw for a hand. All which are normal. I could make people laugh in my posts. Here. Let me give you an example of the comments I used to get:

That is right people. Even Gentri Lee thinks I am funny. Now these are the comments I get.
In case you didn't get it... that means nothing. Zero. Nada. The big goose egg. I get hardly any comments anymore. And I think it is because I haven't been writing funny things... that is what brought you all in the first time. And I don't write funny things because I am emotional. And why am I emotional? Well. Web MD told me I might need my hormones checked. So what did I do? I got my hormones checked. And my blog was right. My hormones were off balance. So here is to a few pills and hoping that I can get back to the women I once was. A huge shout out to all my followers and blogger friends and of course my blog. Because without all of you... I might not have known to get my hormones checked. Even though I probably would have because this weight gain thing (my insulin levels were off the chart) is CA-RAZY! And I am not liking having gained 20 pounds in the last 8 months.

Dear Sandy Hook,

12.17.2012

Since Friday morning I have been trying to think of how to put my thoughts and feelings into words... but at the end of it all the same thing came to me. I am speechless. My thoughts, my tears, my love, and my prayers go to all those that were affected by the events of that morning. I have no doubt that arms were opened wide at Heaven's gates for all of the Connecticut natives. Young and old, boy and girl, all welcomed to be with their Heavenly family. At this special time of year I ask that we all keep these families and friends in our prayers and in our thoughts. That they might have peace, comfort, and love. And that we use moments like these to come together as a nation, all feeling the same heartache and looking for a brighter tomorrow. I want to share this special poem with you, every time I read it tears fill my eyes. I hope you can feel the same love and peace as I do when you finish.

Twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
When 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
When what to their wondering eyes did appear,
But Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
And in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
Those children all flew into the arms of their King
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
One small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now my children, let me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

Dear Handbags of Hope,

11.19.2012

There is a lot going on in my mind today. About holidays. About service. About organizing my closet. About pageants. About friends... and all of it ended up tying back to one thing. But let me walk you through my thought process. I was thinking about the holidays...

Christmas and Thanksgiving are coming up. It is a time when there is lots of giving and getting going on. And I sort of miss being in high school where service projects are huge, and they are just there for you to do. I should start figuring out what service I can do this year. I have a lot of things in my closet in Utah and in Idaho that I don't really need. I have collected a lot of things through dance, pageants, weight changes, and style changes. I should clean it out and donate it to a shelter or something... but then I got to thinking... pageants... and my friend Whitney who is currently Miss Idaho... she probably would love some help with her platform. So in addition to cleaning out my closet to take to to a shelter, I am going to clean out my handbags. I have really only been using my Miche bag... so it is time to give the purses to someone in need. And I wanted to share the opportunity with all of you!

My sweet friends Whitney Wood is Miss Idaho 2012. I have a special connection with her because we were sister title holders her first year competing. I truly think of her as a sister. She is incredibly smart and talented. Plus. She is gorgeous. This is where it all started...

Well in 2011 she was first runner up to Genevieve, another incredible friend, at Miss Idaho. And this year Whitney won! And she is honestly amazing. I couldn't have picked a better girl to be Miss Idaho... unless it was me (kidding...we all know losing was probably the best thing that happened for me!) These are a few photos of Whitney and me from Miss Idaho week.

Her platform is Handbags of Hope. She collects lightly used handbags and hygiene items to take to women's shelters everywhere. She has had a VERY successful year because of people like you and me that take the time to donate.

So for my big holiday service, I am not only cleaning out my closet, but helping Whitney by getting the word out to my blog friends. If you have ANY handbags or items in the list above PLEASE let me know. I would love to help you in getting them to Whitney for a great cause. If you live near me I can pick the items up, and if you don't you can ship them over to me or Whitney.

So clean our your closets so you can make room for all the things you buy on Black Friday and help out women in need! Please contact me if you have any questions and I can't wait to start collecting!

What service projects are you looking forward to?
How do you help in your community?

Love,
Deidre

Dear No-Reply Comment Blogger,

11.09.2012

There are a few things I hate when I blog... The captcha, which you should all remove because sometimes those TINY numbers are impossible to read. Especially when they are super blurry.

And second is noreply-comment@blogger.com. I really want to answer your emails. But.... I cant. Because you have made yourself basically blogger invisible. So here I am today. To TEACH you how to fix that! If you have recently changed over to Google+ chances are you are now a noreply-comment blogger, even if you weren't before. Imagine my surprise when people that had been replying to my comments for months messaged me and said "You are a noreply blogger..." I was sad for them. And for me. Because all that means is I have become that person that I never wanted to be! So here we go with the tutorial. It is rather simple. Let's do this.

Step 1
Click the sprocket, then in the drop down menu click "Revert to Blogger profile".

Step 2
Click the scary orange "Switch to a limited Blogger profile". You don't have to stay a limited blogger for long... so it isn't as scary as they are making it seem.

Step 3
Click the orange "Continue to Blogger" button. This will bring you back to your homepage.

Step 4
In the top right corner click on your photo (or the silhoutte if your blogger profile is photoless) and then click the "blogger profile" link.

Step 5
Click the orange "Edit Profile" button.

Step 6
Make sure the box next to "Show my email address" is checked. Go save. Return to your blogger dashboard. Click on the sprocket that started it all. And click "Connect to Google+".. it will take you through a few steps to get you back to your Google+ account.

If you want to test your noreply-comment blogger status, leave a comment on this post and I will let you know! Also. Don't forget to enter the Stella & Dot Giveaway!

Dear Hair,

9.28.2012

Hair is scary. Actually. Hair isnt scary... changing hair is scary. Because. I don't know about everyone else. But I get bored with my hair. All the time. And after about 6 months to a year of the same cut, color, whatever... I start thinking "I hate my hair. It never looks good." And sometimes I will even lead in with, "I just look ugly all the time." Which, from what Adam says, isn't true. But what it comes down to is I get mad at my hair and blame everything about me on it. So then what time is it? Time to finally call a hair stylist and get some work done. Here is what I like to call... My hair, a history.

So as you can seem I usually end up at about the same hair style of brown and long. And finally I was back to that again. And I kept it for almost TWO years this time. And then... it was time. Time to change my hair. And do you want to know why I decided good hair was so important? Let the following diagram show you.

See? A GOOD HAIRCUT IS IMPORTANT. So that is why I decided to change it up. Try something totes new. So here you have it. BANGS!

Bangs are scary. And sometimes I think, what the heck did I do?! THESE THINGS ARE GOING TO TAKE YEARS TO GROW OUT. But then I remember. I like them. Because I am not the same as every other girl in Utah with long hair and a middle part. I am "that lady with bangs". And that is a name I am okay with.

Love,
Deidre
