Spring Break Guide: Savvy Curls

I feel like the one thing I always care about on Spring Break that I shouldn't really worry about at all it hair. Packing a blow dryer, a straightener, both sizes of curling iron - and suddenly half my bag is filled with hair products "just in case" I decide to do my hair a certain way. I found an answer, my friends. Let me introduce you to your favorite new hair product. Savvy Curls. Not only is it so easy to use and compact for your packing, but it is also heatless so at the end of the day you are saving your hair all that hot torture. And it took my hair from this.

Which isn't terrible after not styling it in the morning, but still not ideal. To this.

And that was after just one hour of wearing Savvy Curls around the house. But they held all day. So think of it this way. Wake up in the morning. Throw in your Savvy Curls. Get your makeup on, eat breakfast, let the dog out - and wahlah. Hair. Is. Done. And seriously so easy to use. Let me take you step by step.

First put Savvy Curls on like a headband. I place it right before my hairline so I don't get any kinks, but I am sure if you wanted to wear it all day you could push it into your hair without any issues.

Next I separated my hair into four sections. Now, I have relatively thin hair so it was easy for me to just split it into four. If you have more hair I would suggest six or eight sections - or getting the double band.

From there I wrap each section individually. I start on the section closest to my ear on the left, then move to the right. From there I move to the back and wrap each of those sections. You wrap the hair around just like you would a curling iron - but this time it is around a foam band.

Once all the hair is wrapped around you could leave it as is for tighter curls, but I am a fan of the beachy look - so from there I go back around the entire band and loosen up the wrap to make sure the curls will in turn be looser. The tighter the wrap, the tighter the curl.

Now you are all wrapped, tucked, and good to go you can just rock that Savvy Curls band until you are ready to take it out. For my hair I needed a full hour to achieve the curls I wanted. My hair is very thin, but a decent amount of it. It generally doesn't take or hold curls very well. I have worn it to dance class, while watching tv, and to bed - everytime achieving similar results.

Whenever I am ready to take out my band, I slowly roll it out making sure the curls have a fighting chance. Once the band is completely removed I shake my hair a little and I am good to go! It really is as simple as that.

I love the ease that is Savvy Curls, I love that it is a product that protects my hair and is simple to pack. And I say it is a must as you are getting ready for your spring break trips. Imagine rocking Savvy Curls to the pool all day, then heading home to get ready and just removing the band - you are good to go, which also means you were able to snag an extra 20 minutes at the pool. And who doesn't love that?

So lately Adam has entrusted me with his hair care. Last year we got a brand new pair of clippers and now I am the hair stylist extraordinaire at our home! I feel like that is a bit risky for someone who hadn't even attempted a haircut on someone else until a year and half ago... and before that the only experience was trimming my own bangs. But for some reason, he trusted me!



I feel like I have done a pretty good job. Especially because we all know how important hair is to me! But for all you people out there... I present the following. A Guide To Hairstyling For Men.

Men often think because they have short hair that there isn’t much they can do in terms of styling and trend following but they are wrong. Instead short hair can lend itself to various techniques including colouring, layering and cropping with hair clippers. If you can interested in a style which is a step away from your usual the very best thing you can do is arm yourself with a photograph and a recent photograph at that because even reoccurring styles have a slightly different take on them season to season.

Many men are tempted to go to a local barbers who will skip the whole shampoo and hair massage, follow the existing line of the hair and charge a cheaper price. This is perfect unless you really decide to experiment in a new style and direction. For example a barber can handle more classic styles such as a buzz cut (a short clipped hair cut) but they might struggle if you go in with a request for the celeb must have Faux-hawk (fake Mohawk). The key is choice your location wisely.

Once there if you know what you want be direct, tell the Stylist what you are looking for and discuss through how it can work for you. If your thoughts are more along the lines of ‘’looking for an update’’ express that too and work with the Stylist to look through magazines, even look around the room and see if there are any styles you like (you can trust Stylists to have the most up and coming hairstyles).

Once you have discussed through your needs be totally sure of how short you want the Stylist to go as nowadays all types of hair clippers can be set to an exact setting allowing you to determine length.

Once the cut is finished pay attention to how much product is applied to achieve styling, think about whether you will be able to achieve a similar look at home, even ask the Stylist for advice on how to get the same look and buy the necessary products if they are inevitable to achieving the look. Some people might also look to invest in a pair of home clippers that will allow them to maintain the look themselves, if you choose to do to this seek out a reputable hair and beauty stockist, such as a supplier of salon scissors, as they should stock clippers too. Most of all be confident that if you want to maintain your look yourself that you can follow the exact lines set by your hair stylist.

Best Hair Straighteners

Remember a long, long time ago when I posted this on Instagram?

Well. The caption was, "Look what just came in the mail! Watch for a review in the next couple week!" A couple weeks turned into a couple months... with moving, the draft, and me being sick and too lazy to get ready I just didn't do my hair. So here I am now for a review. Missiko has a ton of different hair products. Dryers, curling irons, straighteners... you name it. They got it. They even have some awesome beauty products. But today I am here to talk to you about the Hana Salon Hair Straightener. It is the best hair straightener I have ever used. But I will get to that in a second.

Let's start with the packaging. Missiko spares no detail. They are all about the aesthetics of the packaging. My box was purple themed and was full of all sorts of fun. The package alone would make you happy, even if the product didn't rock. But let me tell you something... the product totally rocks!

I put my hair into a bun riiiiiight after my shower. Then straight to bed. Then I sort of fixed my bun for work - just to make it a little more presentable. When I got home from work I let my hair down. And here we are at before. Lots of kinks and waves. And very flat.

So I went to work on my hair. I turned the straightener to about 350 and let it heat up for about ten minutes. I straightened my hair in three different layers - my hair is thin so it worked perfect. The top layer got volume as I straightened it away from my scalp. All in all - it took me about 10 minutes to go from the before to after.

The product works so fast and well. You can see on the close up it got the kinks out, but my hair is a little dry, which is why it isn't model shiny. The product kept my hair straighter longer as well. Usually I will get a new kink in my hair after ten minutes up in a pony tail. I threw my hair in a bun for about two hours that evening - and after I could just brush out the kink. The Pony Tail Pat Down

I posted some random facts the other day. People seemed confused by one... so here I am bringing back an old post for those of you that didn't understand.

"But the real reason for this post. I need you all to know how thorough Salt Lake City Airport is on their security. Today I took off my boots, jacket, and sweater and put my electronics and liquids into a separate bin to be scanned. I stepped through a full body scanner that is like an x ray machine. That seems like a pretty clear inspection, right? Right. So I thought I was done. But then the gentleman asked me to stand on this yellow mark and wait for a second. I assumed they were going to double check my bag (its happened before) but then a woman walked up and said, "I need to check your hair.." I looked at her for a second and laughed, she was joking, right? And then she said, "If you just want to turn I can check your ponytail." Okay, she wasn't joking. She gave my pony tail a pat down! My hair is fairly thin, and wasn't even that poofy today, but she gave it a pat down for a second and then said, "Okay! Looks like you are good. I didn't find a switch blade!" So I turned around and said, "Good, I was worried someone hid one in there while I was waiting in line!" Then I turned back around put on my jacket, scarf, and boots, grabbed my liquids and put them back in my suitcase, and packed my computer back in the case and slid it into my carry on.

The exact pony tail I have been sporting since 5:30 AM today... looks dangerous, right?

Did that really just happen? Oh yeah... it did."

That was post 03.22.12 and is still applicable today. Since that day, I have received the pony tail pat down in Salt Lake City, Portland, Ontario, Alberta (that is right... even in CANADA), and a every other place I have flown. I wasn't aware this was procedure now. But I guess they have had one too many women pull a dagger out of their poof. Oh also. Another side note. Never wear sequins when going through airport security... that calls for an entirely different pat down, and I don't feel like reliving that right now.
