August and September Outtakes

9.30.2013

The Good
Adam and I celebrated one year of marriage!
Miss America party - I love.
Meeting Adam's brother for the first time, and Adam seeing him for the first time in 2 years.
I conquered the #burn1000challenge, like a boss.
Adam came home TWICE!
And I went to Missoula once to celebrate our anniversary and watch Adam pitch.
And I went to Arizona to see Adam and attend my first MLB game.

The Bad
All the pitching finally caught up with Adam in Orem and
he was send down to rehab in Arizona put on hold for pitching until January.
Lost $500 to Hotwire for not reading fine print.
The postal service keeps deciding to decline our mail....
Fell down. Hit my knee. Still have a bruise.
Also. Had to get an MRI and an EMG - scans, needles, and shock treatment... cool?
Basically just living apart - Skype and Selfies can only make up for so much!

The Outtakes
And of course these beauties.. for good measure!

Basically all of the ups and downs at our home had to do with baseball and whether or not we saw each other. Plus add in my struggle with managing to keep my body unbruised and unsore. Ha. In October we are looking forward to Halloween, Adam moving home, and a few football games! What were the highlights of your months? The ups? The downs? Anything exciting on the books in October?

Fashion Fits Everyone || Volume 6

9.26.2013

This woman here is an inspiration. I have admired her for longer than she realizes. I met her once almost a year ago when I was a tiny blogger and she impresses me more every single day. Following her journey to being healthy has been beyond inspiring. Introducing Diana from Livy Love.

Like any girl, I have a true love for make up, fashion and just always trying to look your best. That's not to say I don't love snuggling up in my pajamas, but I do love to get pretty when I am going out and hanging with friends or a date with my husband. I think that confidence plays a huge part in all of this because by the way someone dresses, shows a lot about their self esteem and how they view themselves. I have been on both ends of the spectrum! I have been where hiding behind my clothes was a comfort and I didn't want to put myself out there too much because I wasn't completely confident in who I was. I have also been extremely proud of myself and I think people have responded to that positively which in turn makes me want to keep being that way.

My body has changed quite a bit over the last few years. I have had 2 babies, gained some weight, lost 40 lbs, gained it all back and then some and now have lost 70lbs. I have had to learn how to dress my body after so much change, which hasn't been super easy. It sure has been nice to go down a few sizes smaller, but what used to work for my body doesn't always keep working. I think I would say I am a pear shape. I have hips, a big bust and my waist is getting slowly smaller. I like being curvy. I feel like in the media, there are far too many stick thin girls and I will be honest, it kind of looks creepy. I do just want to be healthy so if wearing a size 12/14 pant means healthy, then I am all for that. I like to wear form fitting tops that accentuate my waist. I guess this style is empire. It's flattering for basically every body type and I feel comfortable in it.
My style consists of lots of colors, patterns and textures. I am not afraid of coral pants or a sequin top. I wouldn't probably wear them together, but balance is key. I shop a lot at Asos or Forever 21 which is known for pretty trendy fun clothing and I am such a fan of all of that. If you are searching for your style, don't be afraid to experiment. There have been so many times where I have seen a blouse at a store, never thought I would like it, try it on because the color was pretty and ended up loving it. You may think your body is only meant for a certain fit or look, but you just have experiment with all the options out there.

photo FFEButton_zps3ece9ed1.pngNot everyone considers themselves fashionable and honestly that is totally okay. I don't think fashion is the answer to every life problem, but I know it has boosted my self esteem on many occasions so for that I am truly a fan. If you look good in yoga pants and a cardigan, you rock that outfit with confidence and people will see it. When I feel pretty, I know others around me feel my confidence. I hope by doing that I can help others who need a boost when they are having a "fat day" because lets be honest, we all have those now and again. We are all unique and beautiful women and lets show off our best selves!

Business Professional

9.25.2013

One thing I really love about my job is business dress. I mean, I love planning event and I love that I love my job. I am happy to be with the company I am. But I really do love business dress. There is something so grown up to getting up every morning and needing slacks or a blazer over a pair of jeans and a T shirt. Plus. Business dress has really helped me to expand my wardrobe. To mix and match items to become a business professional. And it has changed my shopping habits. I used to always go straight for the shirts. But now shirts are the last thing I look at. First I look for a fun pencil skirt or a stylish blazer.

Every month we have a leadership meeting for Managers and Supervisors at our property. This month's meeting was with an image consultant. She gave us ideas on how to dress for our job and how to speak/look professional. She went into a lot of details onto how much a first impression ways into the rest of the interaction. Her concepts were very eye opening. The one thing that stuck out to me most was her levels of dressing. She had four levels and the higher up you went in levels the more professional your outfit was. Being a level four meant layers (like a jacket or blazer), a collar (double collars rank you as a high four), dark contrasting colors, and for females a skirt is always higher than pants in professionalism.

Skirt: c/o Blossom Clothing Boutique \\ Blazer: Thrifted \\ Top: SexyModest Boutique
Shoes: Forever Young (old) \\ Necklace: Bohme

She said if you are dressed as a four you are prepared to meet with any person - be it the president or a lunch meeting with your friend. And I agree. This is one of my level four outfits with my new [and FUN... who said my work outfits can't be trendy still!?] pencil skirt! What do you wear to work? What do you dress up for? What would you say is your most business professional outfit?

80s Baby

9.24.2013

I've been holding off on this playlist for quite sometime. I felt like I needed to save it for the right moment. But after this weekend I couldn't hold off any longer. All signs pointed towards 80s. Sign #1. Adam and I were talking about the things we could do when he gets home - and 80s dancing was one of the first options. Sign #2. Manic Monday came on the radio when I was driving to work. On Monday. Nailed it. Sign #3. Pretty in Pink was on TV Friday night when I had nothing else to do. Sign #4. I was reminded of this video. Okay. Maybe that wasn't a sign. But either way. Here you have it. My favorite decade with my favorite music. Give me some shoulder pads and some spandex. It is 80s time people!

Side A
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper
I Wear My Sunglasses - Corey Hart
Manic Monday - Bangles

A Floral Discount

9.23.2013

This post is a combination of two really wonderful things that I have talked about before. The first thing is Coupons.com. Remember a few weeks ago when I talked about taking your closet from summer to fall? Well that green dress and this lovely floral dress were both purchased for under $50 with the codes offered at Coupons.com. Seriously, incredible. Anytime you are doing some online shopping, I would seriously suggest checking out Coupons.com before you check out. They have hundreds of codes and tricks and it is updated daily.

Second good thing? Ashley Eliza Photography. You might remember my outfit from last week that she was the photographer for? Let me tell you a little secret about those photos and these ones. The day we went to take my pictures I felt super not okay looking. When I left from our shoot I was thinking that there was no way those photos would turn out. She sent me the photos the next day and I was blown away. They were incredible! She took a self-conscious me and made something that I was excited to share! See what I mean?

Dress: Lands' End c/o \\ Shoes: Target \\ Watch: Walmart

Okay. Maybe you don't love them like me. But I think Ashley did an AWESOME job. And guess what? She is offering one lucky readers $30 off of a session! So go ahead and enter or just head over to her site and book a session. She does families, couples, weddings, and everything else. I promise you will not regret it. Are you in need of some new photos? What will you be booking a session for?

The Marriage 15

9.20.2013

Everyone always talks about The Freshman 15... but does anyone ever talk about The Marriage 15?! No. Because no one truly believes in it or even knows it is a thing. But let me be the first to tell you, it is REAL people. You get comfortable, you make treats, you don't have to look pretty anymore because you already got your man, you stop going to the gym because hanging out at home is more fun, you don't go to dance parties... plus, if you get married after you graduate you don't have to walk back and forth on campus. You just sit at a desk and get fat. It also doesn't help if your work offers you delicious treats on a weekly basis.

Don't fall victim to The Marriage 15 like I did. Because I really did. Actually. More like The Marriage 20. What happens when a girl is only motivated to work out for swimsuit competition and then said pageant gets taken away? Weight gain. What happens when said girl meets the man of her dreams and would rather watch Pretty Little Liars than go to the gym, and she can because she don't gotta impress no one? Weight gain. What happens when you live in your own home with your own fancy wedding gift kitchen gadgets? Weight gain. Let me tell you... it is real. And now that I have realized it is real, I am doing something about it. And you can too!

So don't do it. Don't fall victim to any sort of 15. The Freshman 15. The Marriage 15. The Full Time Job 15... don't do it. Just remember this info-graphic and hit the gym. You can thank me later.

Fashion Fits Everyone || Volume 5

9.19.2013

Today I have Kelsey from Stories of Kel here to talk Fashion Fits Everyone.
I've loved learning about Kelsey through blogging and become friends off the internet.
She is a strong individual and I admire that.

I am here to tell you than fashion truly fits everyone. I am pretty tall (5’7) and have a pretty slender frame. I am a size 2 with hardly any curves. I am definitely no fashionista but I have come up with some tricks to complement my body type. I’ve had long hair all my life and have found that it over dramatizes my long neck and makes me look kind of haggard. Because of that I recently have tried to keep my hair short and spunky to make my face look a little rounder. I also have the flattest décolleté so I distract from it with fun accessories or scarves.

I am a firm believer that every body type is beautiful. I have wasted enough hours of my life wishing I had a different body type. If you counted up the hours spent comparing yourself to others what number would you come up with? I bet most of us spend more time than we would care to admit I’ve spent countless hours wishing I had thick long hair, an exotic eye color, more curves, and even a shorter neck. In my teenage years I even went through a kick where I did hundreds of calf raises every day hoping that my legs would stop looking like chicken legs. How ridiculous is that? Who cares how long your neck is or what color your eyes are?

photo FFEButton_zps3ece9ed1.pngIt is amazing how much pressure the world puts on us to be perfect. I have noticed this much more ever since I started blogging. I felt inferior because I certainly did not dress the way many fashion bloggers did. You mean I need to throw on a pair of heels, have 10 pieces of jewelry on, the trendiest top, and perfect makeup to go to the grocery store? This certainly wasn’t practical for me. I am a total jeans and a t-shirt kind of gal. Who says that isn’t beautiful? I decided it was time to forget what the world defines as beautiful and find beauty deep inside myself. I had been growing out my hair for years trying to achieve a certain look and I finally just photo chopped it off. Can you say liberating?! I have found that once I stopped comparing myself to others and embraced my inner beauty I had much more confidence.

I would encourage you to spend less time criticizing yourself in front of the mirror, stop trying to fit into that pair of jeans that just won’t fit, and stop wishing you had what others have. Do your best to make yourself presentable in the morning and then go out and rock it! Don’t waste another minute putting yourself down.

Notes and Knots || Giveaway

9.18.2013

Four good things. All in one place. Instagram, shopping, headbands, and bows! And now you are all like, what the heck are you talking about!? Well. Here we go.

One of my baseball wife friends and her neighbor recently started to put their crafting into some monetary work. First it started out as headbands and then it grew into headbands and bow ties. They started a Instagram based company called Notes and Knots, and I was lucky enough to test one out. She sent me a photo of all their new materials, and that was hard enough. They had rhinestones, my ever favorite color - mint, florals, aztec prints, birds... all so cute. They have such an awesome variety of fabrics, but it doesn't stop there. They also do a lot of fun different headband styles. Some simple knots, some bows, some thick, some for working out. And once again, it doesn't stop there. They make them in all sizes! Adults, kids, and baby. And ordering is a cinch. All you do is go onto their Instagram, find your favorite headband's photo, leave the size you want and your email, and they sent you an invoice! You can also order through their shop on Glitz and Gold if you want to pay directly to PayPal without an invoice. The cost is based on the size:

Newborn: $7.00
Toddler\Kid: $9.00
Teen\Adult: $11.00
Bowties: $7.00
SHIPPING: $2.00 and FREE with orders over $14.00

And like I said. I got one of my own. It was hard to pick, but I went with the floral fiesta because the colors are SO beautiful and it is just a fun pattern that will go with just about anything. Today you just get a little sneak peak - the whole outfit will be up later!
Headband: Notes and Knots \\ Top: Gap \\ Necklace: Blue Bird Bride

Here are a few of their headbands from their new fabrics.

Walkout Songs

9.17.2013

It has been a lot of baseball these last weeks. In fact... ever since I met Adam it has been a lot of baseball. Two seasons at BYU, eight trips to out of town games, one professional season, and too many games online watching a tracker or a blurry video to count. Baseball is what our family does. And will always do. But ya know what? I am okay with that. Because it is something I have grown to love through my relationship with Adam. One thing that is very special to baseball is walkout songs. Each player gets to pick their very own song for when they walkout. For pitchers it is a song for them to warm up to when they start. A good solid minute of pumping up to their favorite jam. For position plays it is about 10 seconds every time they walk up to bat. And it is only for the home team. Home field advantage is everything, yeah? So here are some of my favorite walkout songs from the last couple years.

Side A
Getting Jiggy With It - Will Smith
Living on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
Can't Hold Us - Macklemore ft Ryan Lewis
Closing Time - Semi Sonic
Radioactive - Imagine Dragons
Lovumba - Daddy Yankee
Paradise - Coldplay
Good Feeling - Flo Rida

Side B
Hall of Fame - The Script ft Will.i.am
Anyway You Want It - Journey
Breakin' A Sweat - Skrillex
Run On - Johnny Cash
Can't Stop - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Wanna Be Starting Something - Michael Jackson
Black Betty - Ram Jam
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Save a Horse - Big & Rich

After Labor Day

9.16.2013

When it comes to fashion. I don't follow rules. Sorry people. Mostly I don't follow them because I don't understand them. And then another... mostly I don't follow them because I do what I want. The biggest one I don't follow is wearing white after labor day. I tried to find out where that rule originated from to see if there really was a reason... but the only thing I could find was this - "While no one is completely sure exactly when or why this fashion rule came into effect, our best guess is that it had to do with snobbery in the late 1800s and early 1900s."

So I pick the "who cares?" button and roll on. I like white pants. And since they are always on sale after labor day. I am going to roll with it. I guess the only thing I have to worry about now is getting chocolate milk spilled on me like Drew Barrymore... (Never Been Kissed anyone? Okay, just me?) Because that has actually happened to me in high school. That was horrifying.

So these photos, I was lucky enough to do a photo shoot with my friend Ashley last week. She is the owner and photographer for Ashley Eliza Photography. Currently she is booking mini-sessions at a killer deal. $60 for 30 minutes and a CD with  15-20 images. Just in time for the awesome fall colors coming on. Her work is stunning - you can check it out here.

Sweater: Gap Outlet \\ Pants: Target \\ Shoes: Forever Young \\ Lockets: Etsy

Don't forget to check out Ashley Eliza Photography
and book your fall mini session!
You'll be seeing more of her work over the next couple weeks on the blog. She is a doll and super easy to work with. She didn't even make fun of my for my white on white. Do you wear white after labor day? What fashion rules do you break? Any rules you think need to be made?
