Miss America 2013 || Hair

1.10.2013

I want to tell you something. That might be a surprise. But most likely is not. The damage my hair gets in one week at Miss Idaho is worse than the damage it gets all year. Imagine one week, cooped up with a bunch of girls with awesome hair, all learning from each other new tricks, hair spraying, ratting, fluffing, curling, washing, ratting, more ratting, curling again, more hairspray... it goes on and on and on. And it is especially rough for a girl with thin hair that doesn't like to hold any curl like me. So my routine goes a little like this. Rat layers and layers of hair with tons of hairspray to get that pageant poof. Spray heat protector and hairspray on my extensions  that is right, all that fake hair, and curl them, then repeat the process on my hair. Clip in the fakes. Touch up any areas with curling iron. Smooth out the top of the hair so I don't look like Medusa. Flip hair upside down and spray all over for volume. Smooth and comb everything to perfection. Hairspray to make a barrier or helmet of some sort from any outside forces. And ya know.. that is a general idea of how all the girls backstage get the final product. Lots of heat, ratting, and hairspray. Oh... and smooth. Don't forget the smoothing. Awesome, right?

But we turn out pretty normal in the end. All the work just makes the hair last through 5 hours of competition and results.

But then. If a girl doesn't want to do all that... there is always the bump it. Because I won't lie I have seen a lot of those backstage. One year, my roommate was even nice enough to let me try on her "Hollywood Hump Bump It".

In case you can't tell... my hair has a shadow. Now that is something I will never wear in public. I will take the damage to my hair, I can always get a deep condition after, yeah?

Love,
Deidre

That's an amazing amount to happen to one person's hair. I am not sure even if I did all of that I would ever get my thin hair to curl...there's too much of it and as well as being thin, it's extremely heavy - there's a lot of it. Really pleased to be following from the hop - being British I am interested in the whole Miss America scene - so different to what we have here.
