Dance

DDC

1.20.2014

Are you here for my Bachelor review from last week? If you said no, that is okay. It is a new thing, I am not sure if it has picked up yet. If you said yes, I hate to break it to you... but I didn't watch so I can't tell you my fave girls or my fave dresses. I might try to recap once Hulu allows me too since I don't have the proper provider (what does that even mean?!) but by tonight I will be too wrapped up in the new episode I probably wont... so if you need a recap head over to Aubrey's blog.. But still, keep reading here. This post might interest you as well.

So this last week I made it seem like I was in town. But I wasn't. I was in the Caribbean on a cruise. More on that later. Like... a seriously overload later including why I tweeted all sorts of drama about missing my cruise and hating Delta, photos of me not getting tan, and awesome towel animals. And while I was on a cruise I competed in a dance off. And while I competed in the dance off I was very nervous. Because up until a few weeks ago I was undefeated in all my dance offs, but just recently I lost in the Alison Show Dance Challenge. Heartbreaking. Here was my submission...

Okay. So. I didn't come out grand supreme. But I did get a lot of good feedback. And that is what fueled me for my cruiseship dance off. And even though I was up against many GREAT contestants, including a black girl that could twerk better than one million Mileys dancing to I Like Big Butts and a latin man that did the splits.... I came out victorious! You can check out a little clip of the dance on Instagram. Which leads me to my new thing. It's called.... Deidre's Dance Channel. Because I cannot hide it anymore. I love to dance and I love to show you all my moves. So get in your requests now people. Locations for new videos? Songs for new dances? Ideas for costumes? Name them. Give me your requests. If you haven't noticed by now, I am up for all suggestions and ideas. So let me hear them. Don't be shy! And get ready for #DeidresDanceChannel to make it's mark in your social media world.

Mixed Tape for Tuesday

6.04.2013

Like I said yesterday... we've been moving. And while we move we listen to music. Our wedding dance playlist has been on repeat at our old home and our new home. Music, spontaneous dance parties, and make shift karaoke systems (aka... a whisk and loud yelling) will help make even the worst tasks seem totally do-able. So... here is a mixed tape full of songs for singing and dancing. Now go make your week a little more do-able.

Side A
Dynamite - Taio Cruz
Shark in the Water - VV Brown
Bye, Bye, Bye - N*Sync
I Love It - Icona Pop
Footloose - Kenny Loggins
Lights - Ellie Goulding
Blinded by the Light - Manfed Mann
I Don't Feel Like Dancing - Scissor Sisters

Side B
Wannabe - Spice Girls
The Heart of Rock and Roll - Huey Lewis and the News
Firework - Katy Perry
I Wanna Dance with Somebody - Whitney Houston
Jump Jump - Kris Kross
22 - Taylor Swift

*I am not endorsing the videos for these songs. I am endorsing that the songs listed above make me want to sing and dance. I do not own the rights to any of these songs.*

One. Two. Tap.

5.22.2013

Remember when I used to compete in pageants? Remember how my talent was tap dancing? And remember how a bunch of you asked to see a video. Well. Out of the depth I found one! Not a very good one. But a video none the less. Last year as I was preparing for Miss Idaho my work was VERY supportive. They bought an ad for the competition book, they put up a countdown to Miss Idaho, some of the ladies would go work out with me, and a few even drove up to Idaho to watch! What does all that have to do with the video? I'm getting there... To help me prepare they also held weekly mock interviews with me and had me perform my talent.... so here comes the video!

It doesn't quite do my talent justice... small space. Carpet. About 50 people staring at me. Also... I didn't stretch. But. At least your sort of get my tapping capabilities. In the real performance I didn't fall out of my turns and I made a lot of weird faces to show the judges I was excited.
See what I mean? I did however have to restart my talent on finals night because my music stopped dead in the middle. At least I hadn't pulled out my sticks yet... that could have been awkward. But there you have it. My tap dance. And hopefully now I can have all your love and support for the Miss Idaho system and my future attempt to convince Adam to let me run in a Mrs. pageant maybs? Actually maybe not. But maybe seriously I will because I am addicted to pageants. Don't scoff. Got any Miss America questions? Shoot them my way.

A Funky Tale

3.13.2013

Dance is important to me, if you didn't catch that from yesterday's post. And since I don't dance like I used to I like to watch all dance shows humanly possible. And since I go to all of Adam's baseball games, he likes to go to dance performances with me. Even the ballets. Even though almost the whole time he is bored out of his mind and can't seem to grasp why a man would want to wear tights that are that. Especially in the man area. Last week Adam had a baseball game at 3 PM on Friday. And last week my work gave me free tickets on the 5th row for the ballet (at least they said it was a ballet) Romeo and Juliet at 7:30 PM. If all things worked perfect of it being a normal speed game, no rain delay, and a win so there wasn't a disappointing speech after we could hurry from one event to the next. The game would go from 3-6 PM, Adam would shower and change fast, we would be in the car by 6:30 PM and on our way to Salt Lake just in time to get to Kingsbury Hall.

Friday at work I found out it wasn't a ballet at all. But it was ODT: Shut Up and Dance - Romeo and Juliet a funky tale. Which meant instead of ballet all night. The show would be like this.

Cool, yeah? Well I thought so. And then I told Adam, "If you don't want to hurry there after your game. We don't have to. BUT.... it isn't a ballet." And he said, "It isn't a ballet? Then what is it?" And I said, "Hi hop and contemporary. It could be pretty sweet." He said we might as well go, 5th row seats for free? Why not? So we went. And it was sweet. Beyond sweet. I love watching ODT Thriller every year. So this was just a nice little mid year treat. And Adam didn't even have to be befuddled by tight tights on men. He could just enjoy. My favorite line from Adam all night? When the hip hop dancers started he whispered to me, "Look... they are crumping!" Do you like to watch dance performances? What is your favorite type of arts to watch?

Feel Beautiful.

3.12.2013

I wasn't going to post today. But then I saw this and needed to share.

We all have those things that are important to us and make us feel happy and beautiful. For some it is being a mother. For other it is volunteering. For some it is work. And for some it is just wearing makeup and getting your hair done. Besides being a wife and having my husband help me feel beautiful daily, dance really does make me feel better. From the inside out. And I feel young, free, and alive. Dancing is something that will always be important to me. What keeps you young and free? What makes you feel beautiful?

Love,
Deidre
