"Standing at a tiny 4 feet and 8 inches tall and not being rail thin doesn't exactly make me the "model type". But it is what makes me... well, me! It hasn't always been easy accepting my body type, and I'm not going to lie, sometimes it is still a struggle. But I've learned that being different is such a beautiful thing! It makes my day when I hear from other short women who have found my blog, to hear that I have inspired them to try new things and think outside of the box, or even when it's just them telling me they can relate. It has definitely taken a lot... A LOT of trial and error to find "my style", I have had my fair share of cringe worthy outfits and frustrated shopping trips, but I feel like I have really come to understand who I am, what I like, and what looks good on my body. And bonus- short girls can wear all the cute dresses and skirts that tall girls cant. #shortgirladvantage

What is important to remember is that we have all had those moments of self-doubt and perhaps even self-loathing. The problem is when we feel we are the only one who has ever felt that way and we allow it to control our thoughts and actions. As women there is so much pressure on us to dress how the world believes we should. And while I am a supporter of leaving some things to the imagination, there is nothing I love more (when it comes to fashion) than seeing a woman dressed exactly how she wants. Dress for YOU, dress for YOUR personality, tell a story with your outfit, show the world who you are. Because when you do that, when you can express yourself with fashion and personal style- you will shine.

I'd say that my style is always growing, as we try different things we learn more about ourselves and can better understand who it is we want to be. There's nothing I love more than a beautiful sweater over some warm leggings and a hat. But that hasn't always been the case. When I was in High School I dressed very professional. I loved looking mature and business like... which is odd because my style and myself as a whole, has relaxed a lot since then, which seems backwards. But no matter where I am or who I want to be that day- I am dressing to match my mood. If you look back on my blog (please don't) you might find outfits full of color or patterns, and lately I can feel my style simplifying, almost. It's still definitely me, but as I've come to find myself- I can feel my personal style falling into place, as well.

So instead of leaving the "fashion" up to the models, let's remember that we all have to get dressed in the morning, so make it an enjoyable experience. Find what you love, find what you want to say, and put it on. Fashion is for everyone, make it fit for you."

"Within the last five months I became a stay-at-home mom and my style has changed significantly. Before that, I was working or in school, so every day I was putting on makeup, doing my hair, and getting dressed up (dressed to impress!). Now, five out of seven days of the week I'm at home in pajamas all day, with no makeup, and hair in a ponytail. I'm a simple girl, not a fashion guru. The great thing about this is that I don't think about myself and my style much on those days, so when the other couple days come along and it's time to get dressed up, it makes me feel really beautiful and special. I love watching my face transform as I define my features with makeup. Remembering what my body looks like in high heels, skinny jeans and a flattering top brings a smile to my face.
My journey to self-love really took deep root in the last two years after reading a fantastic book. Since then, my self-esteem has been sky high and I love who I am and how I look, including my flaws. I have weird feet, pale skin, fine hair, and my ears stick out- but I don't so much care. It's me, and when I pick out a cute trendy outfit and get dressed up, I feel like a million bucks. I guess I feel entitled to feeling good about myself because I spent so many years feeling insecure about my looks and weight. Now that the insecurity is gone, I have no problem feeling really good about how I look on any given day. I think confidence is an accessory, and I hope it's one I always carry with me.
I consider myself a girl that understands fashion trends and usually I like them or at least appreciate them, but I don't always have the chance to wear the trends. My style is very simple. If that couldn't be more clear in the picture, let me explain. Too much attention makes me feel uncomfortable and more insecure, so I wear very understated makeup (primer, concealer, eyeliner, mascara- and that's it). When I wear a lot of makeup, I don't feel more beautiful, I feel more hidden. Not everyone feels that way, and I actually love the way a lot of makeup looks, but I have never been able to pull it off and still feel like Merilee (I still watch dozens of youtube tutorials, though. They're so much fun!). It's the same with my clothing. Neutrals, jeans, boots, and I'm in my comfort zone. When I wear something too trendy, big, colorful, or obvious, I feel like I'm wearing a sign that says "Look at me! Look at me!" and I don't feel like myself! I love the way those things look, but it just isn't my personality I guess. To those girls who do dress that way, I say keep doing your thing because you brighten up the world! I pull of my simple style by choosing pieces that are a good brand and high quality. I prefer real leather, real wool, etc. I always say "quality over quantity." That's me when it comes to my closet. The jewelry I wear consists of my wedding ring, small dainty necklaces, and some matching earrings- usually stud earrings. I struggle to pull off anything else! Dressing simple makes me feel like I'm cute, understated, and natural. I know I'll always be this way.
If I were to give someone advice on wardrobe and dressing, I would suggest quality over quantity. It's my motto and I think it adds sophistication and simplicity to a wardrobe. Whatever you do, be you! Everyone deserves to love the way they look, love the clothes that show off who they are, and love the body that wears them. Happy dressing!"

"I’ve been overweight for most of my life, since I was 11 actually. I was a super skinny, active kid but after we moved to Idaho I started growing like crazy, up and out! I went up two pant sizes in one summer. By the time I hit 6th grade my parents stopped being able to deny that it was just a growth spurt… so we went to the doctor. My cholesterol was so high that a grown man would have been in a coma, and my thyroid levels were off the charts, in the worst way possible… my thyroid had basically stopped working. Many of you may already know this but your thyroid controls your metabolism. So when I ate my food would just sit there rather than become energy. I will have to take medication to simulate my thyroid’s job for the rest of my life, but I haven’t ever completely recovered. A big part of that is my fault and for a long time I beat myself up about that… I had some seriously low self-esteem most of my adolescence … I played it off well enough, but it was always there, ruining my family relationships one day at a time.
It wasn’t until my mission for my church that I really began to see myself through different eyes. I learned to love myself and to appreciate what I had. I’m not saying that I don’t have some things to change, I should really cut out all fast food, and get off my butt every now and then, but I’m in a place where I love myself, extra pounds and all! Part of that is that I’ve learned a few things; I know how to dress for my body… It’s all about extenuating what the good Lord gave and working around what McDonalds gave… I have great legs, curtsey of my Dad, so I don’t hide them! I’m tall, I’m curvy, and I have some pretty awesome eyes, as my mom likes to point out (you know, my mommy says I’m special and all that) so I focus on those traits! My belly is less than gorgeous so I feel most comfortable in flowy tops, that hang long. I like to wear leggings, partly because it feels like I’m wearing pajamas, and partly because they extenuate my shapely calves…  I like to experiment with makeup too, I feel beautiful when I’m wearing a bright lip or my eye color really pops that day! I also love when I have a good on-point red nail!
Fashion is about making yourself feel comfortable with who you are, not who someone else says you should be. Really fashionable people dress for themselves and no one else. Fashion is more than just the clothing you put on your body, it’s the bounce you have in your step, it’s the smile on your face, it’s the way you belt “Let it Go” in your car at 1am after a particularly fun night with a friend you haven’t seen in ages! So you see my friends, fashion fits everyone because it’s a state of mind, not a size in the store! Love yourself enough to believe that, and everyone around you will too."

"When you are confident, you are beautiful. Period. And while confidence can certainly come from being fashionable, beauty is more than just the right clothing on the right person. People who are kind and generous, brilliant and brave will always be beautiful to me, regardless of what they wear or what they look like. Their goodness gives them confidence, and confidence is beautiful.
I get it, though; it’s hard sometimes to feel confident. I’ve been six feet tall since I was 13. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t self-conscious about my height. Plus my body has changed a lot over the last few years, and those changes have been hard to get used to. My weight has fluctuated dramatically between being pregnant (twice), giving birth (twice), nursing a baby for over a year (twice), dealing with postpartum depression, and taking various medications to address that. After my first baby my chest got bigger and my bum got smaller, which felt super weird. Now, almost four years later, my boobs have deflated, my hips and backside are growing, I’ve got a mama belly, and my hair—which used to be pretty curly—is almost entirely straight now. Often I scarcely recognize the girl in the mirror.
Still, I’m more confident in my style and happy with my body than I’ve ever been. Maybe it’s because I’m finally pinning down what colors, patterns, and cuts of clothing speak to me. Maybe it’s because the older I get the less I care what other people think. It certainly helps to have a husband and children who think I’m marvelous just the way I am!
I’ve found a few brands to which I am very loyal because they make tall sizes that work well with my body shape. There are a few styles that I consistently feel good in, such as fitted tops with A-line skirts, and I will always have a pair of my favorite straight-leg jeans. That said, I also like to play with proportions. Rolling cuffs, tucking things in, and layering different items can completely change the way an outfit looks on my body. I adore the look of cinched waists and full skirts, and I generally prefer a classic, well-tailored pieces to flowy, unstructured ones. Lately, however, I’ve been wearing a lot of loose woven tops and skinny jeans. They’re more comfortable for my current lifestyle and I feel good in them. I see no reason to set strict rules for my wardrobe. Like I said, playing with proportion and trying new things can be fun.
I guess that’s why I don’t think there’s one right way to dress for my body type. I find clothes that I feel good in and I wear them how I like, regardless of what figure-flattering priorities the style experts tell me I should have. I’m never going to have a thigh gap or magnificent cleavage, but that’s not going to stop me from wearing my favorite skinny jeans or a bathing suit I love.
Clothing shouldn’t prevent us from doing what we want. If I’m too worried about breaking an ankle in my heels, I’m not going to dance. If I’m self-conscious about my tummy in a bikini, I’m not going to have much fun at the beach. So my only style advice is this: wear what enables you to be your best self.
You don’t have to buy into trends you don't like, nor do you have to have a closet full of someone else’s “wardrobe staples.” (I don’t own a blazer OR a white button down shirt. So there.) Take inspiration from Pinterest or fashion week or blogs or the girl down the street, but don’t feel obligated to dress exactly that way.
More importantly, don’t get down on yourself for not being a certain size or feeling comfortable in a certain style. Fashion fits everyone, after all! If you don’t feel confident in your current clothing, experiment with different colors, cuts, and proportions. Explore some different styles until you find something that feels right for you. Wear clothing that makes you happy and that let you live your life the way you want to live it. When you do that, you’ll glow!"

"For me...this is something that has evolved over the years. Truly... I can say at one point in my life I didn't quite understand what real beauty was. There was a time  when I was guilty of looking at the cover of a magazine to show me and it really didn't make me feel very confident!  Over the years I have grown to understand that beauty is something achieved through your character and how you respect yourself and others. In my eyes, beauty isn't using photoshop to make a thigh gap or erase your laugh lines. Beauty is embracing your body the way it is and winning people over through your personality.
I would describe my body type as athletic. But most importantly healthy! When I dress for my body type I try to keep things modest and comfortable. Comfort is always a big deal, if something doesn't feel good it is a no-go!
My style is really a random mix of things. I can't really pin point one particular "style" that fits me. Black is my go to color and I love to dress casual and then add a fun piece to pull the outfit together or give it a unique feel. For example, if I am wearing black skinny jeans and a plain white t-shirt I will toss on a leather crop jacket to spice things up - always keeping comfort and modesty in mind!
Fashion fits everyone in that it is versatile! It is unique to each individual and can be used as a form of expression!"

"One of my favorite quotes is “you have to look good, to feel good, to do good.” It’s so true! I feel my best and have more confidence in who I am when I am put together on the outside. A cute pair of shoes and a little mascara can change your whole day around! I try to look my best so that I can feel good about myself. It’s the easiest way to boost my spirit and its how I’m able to portray the person that I want to be.

I’m only 5’1 so I’ve definitely struggled over the years to learn how to dress for my height. Being short is tough! I try to focus on wearing outfits that make me appear taller – skinny jeans, high heels, anything that elongates my figure. That also means staying away from harsh prints or lines that cut me off and make me look even shorter. I’m pretty petite so I have to do a lot of tucking, hemming, or rolling to ensure items fit me correctly. If you are short – find a good seamstress and get your clothes tailored. It’s the best investment!

I like most things feminine and classic. Neutrals? I’m obsessed. My fashion style is not that crazy and that’s okay with me! There are a lot of things out in the fashion world that are trending that I don’t like. My advice? Don’t wear something just because other people are wearing it. Do you! You hate high waisted shorts? Don’t buy a pair. The flower crown is not your cup of tea? Don’t wear one. Make every outfit something you love that represents who you are.

Style is an individual journey and something that changes for everyone over time. Everyone’s style is their own and you can represent who you are through the outfits that you wear. That’s what I love above fashion – it helps me feel good and show people who I am and what I love. It can do that for you too. Just be you, stay true to your own taste, and have fun! And remember, a good outfit didn’t happen if you didn't take a picture in it."

"Once upon a time, there was a girl who tried to be the carbon copy of society's expectations. She would buy tops-- that she would wear once and never touch again-- simply because she saw them on the cover of her latest Teen Vogue. She hated shopping. It was boring. But, she went to the mall anyways. Her wallet may have decreased but her closet grew and that pretty much balanced her happiness equilibrium out. Right? Right? It didn't matter that her Instagram models were petite, rail thin, and boobless and she was not. She ignored her figure. She only wanted to be trendy or dare I say "hipster." Yes, yes, yes, I'm sure we all have been here. And, yes, yes, yes, that was me.
These past few years have  changed me. Well, maybe change isn't quite the right word. It might better be described as the blossoming, refining, and cocoon shedding we go through when we move out of our childhood home. (YAY FOR GROWING UP!)  Grown up Katie picked up the matra of: having less, spending less, and using less. Basically, I have learned not to do anything I don't want to do. There are millions of people and opportunities in the world. You control your schedule. You control your focus. You control you.  And maybe my preferences haven't changed but I've learned to say no to things that don't quite fit that. Similarly, my closet has undergone that transformation. THIS IS ACTUALLY NOT EASY.
“Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction.” -E.F. Schumacher (1911)
I knew that I didn't like baggy t-shirts with obscure words, flannels, and combat boots. I longed for Kate Middleton-esque, pretty, and powerful. It took a little piece of my fashionista heart but I eventually threw out my crazy wardrobe. So, instead of being lined with the new, the trendy, the hip, my closet is currently filled with classic pieces. I have a collection of quality jackets, blazers, button ups, t-shirts, dresses, jeans, leggings, boots, and sweaters that I know look good on my figure. Becoming more minimalist wasn't easy. However, clothing that reflects my personality, preferences, ambitions and figure makes my life easy.
Now, I know what you're probably thinking: BORING! I get it. I get it. Fashion is fun. Fashion SHOULD be fun. I'd like to call my style "class with a little sass!" So, once or twice a year, I will add a few FUN pieces. For example, this year I picked up a cheetah print belt, patterned scarf, and wine colored ankle boots. Last year, I added leather leggings, romper, and statement necklace. I use these pieces to create variety in my combinations. I try to never wear the same arrangement twice in a month. (Yes, to keep it fresh but also because laundry only gets done at about that rate. OPPS! *Cue Christina Perry's "Only Human")
Fashion"S" fit everyone. Never mind Pinterest, Instagram models, or magazines, the clothes you put on everyday should make you feel like the person you want to become."

"My thoughts about fashion and makeup have changed a lot over the last 10 years as I've grown from a child to an adult. At 13 I started getting concerned about fashion, shaving, wearing makeup, etc. It was fun because it was new.
Around age 15 I started to rebel and stopped wearing makeup or really caring how I looked. Unfortunately some pretty big influences in my life, along with the ever present media, made me feel like I needed to wear makeup and that I looked prettier with it. My confidence was really hurt by these ideas. I started wearing makeup soon after, no longer for the occasional fun of it, but because I was supposed to.
This last year has been a huge year for me, I married the man of my dreams, graduated with my masters degree, and started an amazing job, and you know what I have learned? I will never again do things because I am "supposed to."
These days I wear makeup when its fun. My morning routine went from 30-45 minutes to 10 (that extra sleep is incredible). Sometimes I'll throw on some mascara or red lips for the fun of it, but I no longer need to cover up acne or the little imperfections that used to drive me crazy. Its been a journey, but I've learned that how I look is not a reflection of who I am or what I am capable of. To me that is incredibly empowering and has helped me become way more confident in my own skin.
With that said, I love my new found relationship with makeup and fashion. Red lips are my favorite and I can't say no to a pretty knee length dress or super cozy Jcrew sweater. Fashion is no longer a cage for me, its for self expression and fun. The world of fashion is all about perspective and how you let it affect you."

"Ever since I can remember, I was always interested in beauty and fashion. As an adult, my career choice definitely does not reflect that, which is why starting a blog has been so much fun for me. It has allowed me to share my love of fashion in a way I was never been able to before. Blogging has actually increased my confidence and willingness to try things that I probably would not have without it. I have even shared pictures of myself on my blog that I never in a million years thought I would, including wearing a pair of shorts. I was initially hesitant and nervous to try to start a blog, which is silly now as I look back because life is way too short to make decisions based on how others may perceive you. When you think of a style or fashion blogger, a petite, thin girl with perfect hair and skin and unlimited funds for an amazing wardrobe comes to mind (or at least it does for me). Don’t get me wrong – I follow and love said bloggers, but I always relate more to those who do not fit into that box. One of my goals from the start has been to share affordable and practical styles that anyone can wear, regardless of size, shape, or height. I truly believe that fashion be accessible and fit everyone no matter what your budget or dress size is.
I would describe my body type as tall and curvy, yet proportionate. I am about 5’10”, and most of my height comes from my legs, as I consider myself to have a short torso. My legs are definitely on the thick side and I have always had a large bust, which undoubtedly plays into how I dress. I usually stick with pants/jeans, and love to wear V-neck or sweetheart cuts on top to balance out my chest. I love a good blazer or cardigan, and love to draw attention to my neckline with a statement necklace, which I think can be helpful for all you busty girls out there. One of my biggest styling tips would be to play around with accessories because they can make or break an outfit! The details of an outfit are so important, and you really can’t go wrong with a bold lip or nail shade, a unique clutch, or layering on a few gold dainty necklaces or rings.
My style is ultimately very causal. I am lucky enough to be able to wear jeans 7 days a week, and I totally take advantage of that. I am 100% a jeans and t-shirt type of girl. I love to get dressed up, but unfortunately it is just not very practical for my every day life. Living in Albuquerque, NM dressing up is pretty much saved for special occasions, and it is really easy to feel overdressed here. My only style advice is to wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident! If you feel best in a dress and heels, I say go for it! My body type lends itself best to pants, so I tend to stick to what I feel flatters me the most. Take risks and never hold yourself back out of fear of criticism. In the words of the lovely Ms. Taylor Swift, “Haters gonna hate, hate, hate” so I would urge you to refuse to let that stop you from wearing what you feel best in and works best for your body type. A huge thank you to Deidre for creating this amazing forum – Fashion Fits Everyone."

"I've always loved fashion but didn't think that I could be fashionable. I thought that was for tall & skinny girls with lots of money to blow at nice department stores and boutiques. I'm a short, average sized girl on a pretty tight budget so why bother, right?
My fashion turn around actually happened after I gave birth to my first child when I was 22. I was feeling all kinds of frumpy, sleep deprived, and was starting to sink into a little bit of depression. I couldn't feel my full worth because I felt unattractive and inadequate at the new task of being a mom. I decided to do something about it and worked hard to get my body back to where it was. I gained so much confidence during this process and dropped 60 lbs from my heaviest weight during my pregnancy (which includes the expulsion of a baby... so not as impressive as it may sound). I rewarded myself for my progress by building up a wardrobe in my new size, all on a pretty strict budget of course. I learned that you actually don't have to have loads of cash to look cute! It was such a revelation for me.
I'm still learning how to dress my body type, because it's changing all the time right now. I'm pregnant with baby #2 and testing the waters of pregnancy fashion! And I'm not one of those girls who is fortunate enough to only show in their belly... I have the thighs, hips, booty, and chest to go right along with it. Embracing my new curves is hard at times, but I'm learning that you can honestly look good no matter what stage your body is in. Finding what's flattering to your shape when you're pregnant requires a lot of time in the dressing room, and in my case endless online shopping returns because ain't nobody got time for dressing rooms with a 2-year-old. My pregnancy staples are definitely a good pair of maternity jeans, as well as maternity leggings (Old Navy has some for $14 that are THE BEST). I also love longer tunics that aren't necessarily maternity so that they can be worn post-pregnancy as well! Layering is my bff for pregnancy during the colder months.
My style is so eclectic, it's hard to nail down sometimes. But I'd describe it as classic mixed with slouchy and casual. I love ankle boots, simple jewelry, oversized sweaters, plaid, blue jeans, and all things floral.
Although it took me losing a good amount of weight to find confidence in myself, I don't believe that you have to be the smallest you've ever been to look good. I think it really comes down to caring about yourself. That includes having healthy habits (but not depriving yourself, because chocolate is good), dressing yourself in a way that fits your own personal style, and showing confidence through your appearance. Recognize your own self worth and people will take notice. Fashion fits everyone because we are all supremely different, and that is wonderful."

Fashion Fits Everyone

PHOTO: Left to Right, Our childhood friend and adopted sister Kendra, Me (Shelby) and Haley

"My name is Shelby and I have a little sister I’d like to tell you about, well more like about us. First let me tell you about me. I am shy, not frightened to speak shy but quiet, I am also 5’2” with crazy bohemian waves and thick caramel blonde hair. My 'little’ sister, Haley, and I are 2 years and 9 months apart. I say ‘little’ because she is 5’9” tall, she has dark brown hair with amazing kinky curls, the kind women cry over because they can’t ever have curls like hers. She loves to wear heels and is and always has been super stylish.

From an early age I looked up to my sister, seriously I think we were the same height when I was in the 6th grade and she was in 3rd. We also moved that year and had to change schools. The dynamic between Elementary School and Junior High is insane. There is almost a protective bubble still in Elementary. Let’s just say I didn’t fit in with the new cliques so I got comfy in my blue jeans, tee shirts, glasses and art class.

In high school, I had figured out a way to be a wall flower for the most part and was kind to everyone. I was still wearing those same tee shirts and blue jeans…my sister on the other hand went from Junior High Cheerleader to Freshman Cheerleader. Always willing to tell people what she thought and very loud. My teachers couldn’t believe we were sisters. She was popular, in with the cool kids. She dressed cute, halter tops, but never skirts. Her legs are so long she was self conscious about not only the boys AND girls would think if she wore a short skirt but if she would get in trouble from Administration.

One night in high school, (by the way, we went to the same university too) I told her that she had no idea how lucky she was to have beautiful curly hair. She responded with you don’t know how lucky you are to not be towering over all the boys. We were so even. It never occurred to me that my size was an advantage when dating. She was taller than any boy she had ever dated. She loved that I could wake up and decide to curl my hair, leave in natural or straighten if I wanted to, whereas she needed at least 2 hours to flat iron her curls. She is tall, lanky and model-esque. I am short, a bit stockier and fairly average. Haley’s closet was always full of cuter, dressier and more daring clothes. Mine was full of tees.

I am in my mid/late 20’s and like to think I now know a thing or two about fashion and style. Clothes that make me feel pretty and confident. Something I call bohemian casual. I crave native designs and natural fibers. You can find me in skinny jeans almost any day of the week. I wear moccasins and roman style sandals. Cardigans are a natural part of my wardrobe. Maxi dresses are about as dressy as I get. I like clothes that fit me, Hourglass me. I frequently wear those skinny jeans I was telling you about with a tee or tank. If it’s cool, I throw on a cardigan and call it a day. There are always days I wish I had this or that or the cool new thing but it’s the classics that make me feel confident. A chambray oxford and dark indigo skinnies with moccasins are my jam all day pretty much any day.

Haley’s style is different than mine and it’s ok. She dresses for her career and is very professional; what she wears makes her confident. She has an an important job and needs to look it. However, our evening and weekend wear is the same, sweat pants and tees.

WHY does it matter if my clothes make me feel good? Because it’s how we feel in what we wear that gives us the confidence to do our best job. No matter where you are or what your doing. If what you wear that makes you confident and do well at whatever you do, then it is important. It’s not about ‘fitting in’ it’s about showing how you are through your clothes, style and accessories. Fashion is an art and it’s for everyone. How we use fashion to embrace our bodies and show off who we are is different for everyone."

"Fashionable? For me fashion and style are two different things. Fashion to me is general and style personal. My fashion is an extension of my personality. It is basically about how I feel at any given point of time. I would never wear or buy something just because it is in fashion.
My personal style is defined by golden jewelry, contrasted with subtle shades and black. I always try to set off my outfit with a statement necklace. I have a huge fetish for unique pieces of jewelry. My Indian heritage has influenced my style a lot, specially when it comes to selecting beautiful traditional Jewelry from different parts of my country. You will mostly find me sticking to black and often when I am in a mood to pep up my look, I team my look with a bright piece of jewelry.
You would more often see my in draped dresses. I feel experiment is the key to success in terms of style and I try to follow exactly that. How can I forget the essential Indian wear, I'm equally at ease in an elaborate saree as I am in Western outfits. I believe in dressing according to ones body type and in clothes that one is comfortable in. I dress according to my mood. It needn't always be a luxury brand, I love high - street fashion as well.
I don't wear make up unless I have to, Kohl and lip gloss would be my go to look for the mornings. If you have a good lifestyle than your natural beauty will shine through. My signature look is the red mouth - a classic shining look for the night with dark eyes. I feel red lippy makes a statement of it's own and sets off my skin tone perfectly."

"To me fashion is a canvas of individuality.  It is not only defined by what you wear, but also the way we express ourselves, our unique personalities and confidence.  It is multi-dimensional, and we change our trends and colors to suit our moods. I personally love to challenge myself and experiment with different colors, accessories, makeup and hair styles to see how far I can go.  It is all about how comfortable you feel with yourself to allow you to take on a different dimension.
I like to describe my body type as petite with curves.  My style of clothes and makeup varies depending on the occasion and mood that I am in.
Ultimately for work I love to wear knee length dresses that show the outline of my petite curves.  Being 5”3 I tend not to wear long ankle dresses as I feel it can drown me and it loses its appeal.   However I do love long skirts with a cute crop top when I am out with friends.  The crop top is a nice balance to the long skirt, which avoids the look of drowning in my outfit.  I like to add an accessory piece especially form our collection Kdizzle Designs.  Just to add some character and a splash of uniqueness.
I am originally from London, so I tend to spy and buy the latest trends from hair fashion to make up to shoes to clothes.  I like to stand out from the crowd, not by showing too much skin but by wearing something that hasn’t been seen before.  I recently purchased these ankle brown boots that have side holes in them.  I am in love!!  They are perfect for autumn.  It brings winter and summer in one.  Our Kdizzle Designs collection is so unique and fun, we always love to add a piece when we go out.  We get a lot of stares and everyone asks where we got the jewelry from.
You will never find me rocking the same style of outfits; I am constantly switching my style up.  I went from long hair to short hair in a second.  Even my manicure has cute designs and playful patterns.  I take risks in my appearance! I like to have fun with it but making sure I still feel comfortable.  It's exciting trying new things on.
Red lipstick is my hidden passion.  When I go out in the evenings I will wear something simple like jeans and a plain top but I will bring out the red lippy to add some color and fun.   I tend not to go over the top with makeup and clothes.  If I wear my evening body con dresses I will ease off my makeup.  The attention will be on the dress, so I will not overpower it with makeup.  Alternatively if my outfit is simple and less colorful, I will enhance my makeup.  I love switching it up but making sure I have the right balance, otherwise I will scare my audience.
My advice to the ladies is to never stay with one look throughout your life.  I understand there is always a look that suits you best; however women should explore other trends, styles and colors.  Life is too short to be one dimensional.  But always remember keep a right balance in your choices.
Fashion is for everyone!  There is no right or wrong, it is all about personal preferences.  Whoever you are - a girly girl, conservative lady, revealing goddess, Goth or sporty.  Take pride in your appearance.  You will always hear the media criticizing outfits, but everyone is different.  We all have different occupations and lifestyles.  Be free to choose it with confidence.
Adding a piece of Kdizzle Designs to the outfit will boost your confidence and appearance! Check it out!"

"There are days where I completely believe that we are more confident when we are dressed nicer. But at the same time I feel that confidence also comes from dressing how you like, not how the “New York Fashion Week” says you should. If wearing makeup and having your hair done makes you feel better about yourself then go for it! Just make sure you don’t get to the point where if someone saw you without the makeup you’d be crushed. It is so important to have your confidence level be separate from your fashion and beauty world. You need to love yourself without makeup as much as you do with makeup.
I’m a pretty small person. I found the best type of pants for me are cropped, or rolled up right above the ankle, and skinny. I can’t remember the last time I wear boot cut of any type of pant.
When it comes to skirts, the best length for me is no longer then right below the knee, unless of course it’s a maxi. But mid-calf don’t look great, unless I’m wearing heels or wedges. I think this is because I legs on the shorter side.
I’ve tried to pick what my style is but sometimes I’ll wear a cute pencil skirt with a nice top and heels or wedges, and other times you’ll see me in a hoodie, jeans, crazy socks and my vans that are full of holes. The reason I share this is because no one should be confined to one style. I for one dislike it when people point out that I’m wearing heels or lipstick. Everyone should be allowed to have as many different styles as they want, we shouldn’t be confined to one style. I feel this way because it gives us more freedom to really be ourselves, or to dress however we’d like or feel.
Fashion fits everyone because everyone deserves to be fashionable, in their own way. No matter what body type. I have a friend who is a little bigger but she doesn’t let that stop her from wearing the cutest trendy clothes, and she rocks them! Who says you have to look like the model in the magazine to be fashionable."

"I love everything about fashion. Some fashion is artistic and amazing while other types of fashion are down to earth. Fashion blogs hold a special place in my heart. It is fun to read about other women and their journey through fashion. I particularly enjoy the creative pairings of different pieces. Fashion is a personal, creative expression that makes a person feel beautiful and confident.
I have going through different phases in fashion from young mother to business owner and to my current mature self. Fashion is much more fun ad adventurous for me today than when I was younger.
Today I love to shop and try new pieces. I finally learned to look for the best cuts and colors for my body type. These lessons were learned from experimentation and trying on many styles of clothing. Lately I’ve been obsessed with a great pair of jeans (rolled up boyfriend style) I splurged on, glitzy t-shirts, and Sperry Top-Siders (my favorite pair of shoes at the moment). I throw on a cardigan, lots of jewelry, add a big statement purse and I’m ready for errands, field trips, and grocery shopping.
I think every woman needs to find a great fitting dress with the correct cut and length for their bodies; colors that flatter their skin tone; a great pair of jeans that fit the waist, bottom, and length; fantastic boots and flats; and accessories always!
Fashion is a tool to go beyond just dressing for necessity. It offers the opportunity to express oneself with color, shape, texture, and layers. Fashion builds self-esteem and confidence because when you feel beautiful you are beautiful."

Fashion Fits Everyone || Volume 39

I know, it has been a few weeks since you have seen anything from Fashion Fits Everyone. Blogging took a back burner for a little bit in all aspects. But now I am back. And Fashion Fits Everyone is back on a new day - you can find Fashion Fits Everyone on Thursdays starting next week. I thought I would re-introduce the series for all the new Deidre Emme readers.
View More: http://photography-hill.pass.us/2014-07-29
I started my blog as a way to document my life, my marriage, and my fashion... and while I was blogging fashion I started to notice a trend... Every day I would check out my favorite fashion bloggers and pinterest for ideas on outfits. And slowly I became uncomfortable with my body type and I became unimpressed with my closet. I would never be a size 2 like all the famous fashion bloggers and I would never own the beautiful and brand new clothes that they always had. Then one day it hit me... I can fix this. I will never be a size 2 and I will never have a million dollar closet, but that is okay. Because fashion isn't defined by size and style... it is defined by the women who wear it. It is defined by ME! And if I am confident in my body and I am confident in my clothing then I am fashionable. And then I was thinking... I am sure I am not the only woman to ever feel this. Stories need to be shared. People need to remember they aren't defined by the one percent. The rest of us make a much larger group. And then Fashion Fits Everyone was born. It was turned into a full series on my blog where I blog, along with other women who volunteer their thoughts, about fashion, style, body types, confidence, and so on. And it is something that makes me feel independent and strong.
Women need to feel confident. Women need to feel beautiful. And I have been guilty of not feeling both of these things. In fact, I talked a lot about a specific incident in my very first fashion fits everyone post. But what I have learned, is that I cannot let those two things define me. I cannot say "today I have crazy hair" or "today I am not ready to meet people". Because the day will come and go no matter how I feel. What I can do is embrace the flaws and the perfections - because yes we both have both - that I have and I can go out. I can be confident and I can feel beautiful. No one is really looking at what I wear or how I dress. They are looking at how I treat the people around me. When I walk away from people I don't even want to give them a chance to talk about my hair or clothes, because that is what they go to when you aren't showing your personality. I want them to walk away and say, "Deidre was great to meet! Deidre has some good jokes. Deidre really took the time to listen and learn about me." Those are the things that make me beautiful. And those are the things that make me confident.
Last month I was able to meet the lovely Reachel from Cardigan Empire. She is a stylist and on her business card has a "style profile" so everyone she meets, she goes on to give them a profile. At first I was wondering, what is she going to tell me that I need to fix and make work for my coloring. But in fact, she took what I was wearing and gave me a style profile that matched how I dress every day. She defined my body shape - hour glass... I always wondered about that - and she told me I am a "winter" which means I look great in rich, jewel tone colors. And then she defined my style as romantic-trendy. I loved that profile because she was not telling me what I should be, she was helping me enhance what I already was. And it was a great reminder to me... that I can be confident in how I dress because it is me. And why the heck wouldn't I want to be ME!?
So that is why I think fashion fits everyone. Because we all make our own fashion. We all develop our own style. And it doesn't matter if you are a size 0 or a size 20. You make it work with what you have. And at the end of the day, if you are really unhappy with how you look, you are the only one that can change it. So don't be hard on yourself, work hard on yourself. Take those baby steps everyday to get to where you want to be, but enjoy the journey. Because you are still you. You still have to wake up in the morning. You still have to look in the mirror. You still have to get dresses and go out. Don't tear yourself down. Because you are stunning. You are beautiful. And why the heck would you want to be anyone else?
Basically this post is a lot of scattered thoughts. At the end of the day, I want you to know that you are perfect. I want you to know that people enjoy being around you. And I want you to know that no matter what size you are, no matter what color you hair is, or what you wear that you are you and fashion fits you because you fashion comes from your heart. Not your clothing.

Fashion Fits Everyone

"Fashionable is not a word that I usually use to describe myself. Confidence in my body and my style is something that I've struggled with in the past as I've struggled with lifestyle changes and fluctuating weight. There was a point in my life when I was in amazing shape and I felt really cute in anything I put on. I loved going shopping and had the easiest time finding clothes that fit me well and looked good. Four years later, I'm at a point where I hate to shop, trying to pick an outfit to wear in the morning is more frustrating than it is exciting, a lot of my favorite outfits don't fit right anymore and make me feel terrible, and I wear workout pants with a t-shirt whenever I can.
>My friend Jana recently wrote about why she started writing fashion posts on her blog and it changed the way I view fashion, my wardrobe and my body. I left her blog feeling inspired and excited to explore my closet, accessory drawer and jewelry box and find ways to feel beautiful every day. Fashion to me is no longer a word that I dread or that I think can only be used to describe women who are always wearing the latest trends.
I feel fashionable when I take the time to get ready in the morning. I feel fashionable when I put things in my closet together to create a new look I've never worn. I feel fashionable when I try something new with my hair or makeup. Fashion to me isn't about a certain style of clothing or following the trends. Fashion is about wearing something that I feel comfortable in, something that makes me feel beautiful and something that shows off my personality and who I am as an individual.
Whenever I go shopping now, I take someone with me who I know will give me their honest opinion. I've found a lot of cute things that I never would have bought if I was by myself because I have someone there to give me a different perspective. When I think an outfit accentuates an area of my body that I'm always trying to hide, they only see the way it shows off my womanly curves and those clothes usually end up being some of my favorites to wear. When I find an article of clothing that makes me feel really confident, I immediately search for accessories and other things to pair it with to help me turn that one thing into multiple outfits so that I feel cute and stylish without wearing the exact same outfit once a week.
The biggest lesson I've learned lately is that I need to embrace my body, no matter where I am on my pathway to health and getting in shape. Just because I don't fit into some of the shirts that I used to for now doesn't mean that I can only wear my comfortable grunge clothes or the same four outfits over and over again because they don't make me feel vulnerable. Fashion fits everyone no matter their size, personal style or budget. Be creative and you might be surprised by how fashionable you start to feel!
Sidenote: For these pictures that we took last fall, I searched high and low for a new, fun, dress that I would feel really sexy in. The night before pictures I was feeling defeated, so my sister took to my closet. She paired a dress I'd had for a while with a black shade, a fairly new cardigan, and the brand new, fun scarf that we'd just bought. It wasn't exactly what I'd had in mind for me to wear, but I ended up really loving it!"
