Everybody Get Your Vlog on

1.31.2013

Guess what? I am co-hosting Let's Talk Vlog next week. What is Let's Talk Vlog you say?  Well, Hayley from Hayley's World is here to tell you all about it! Take it away sister friend!
------------------------------------------
It's time for Let's Talk vlog series #3 with myself and Maribel from Stroller Adventures

Our co host this week is Deidre (hey... that is me!) from Love: The Skinnys. She is a super cute (she does pageants) newlywed. (Thanks Hayley, you sure know how to flatter a girl.)

You can check her out at the following places too.

New to Let's Talk? Here's what you need to know.

Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month we will have a link up with a new topic with some questions. Questions will be posted the Thursday prior to the live linkup. You can use the questions we give you, just some or take the topic and run with it on your own.

Each week we will also have a co-host. As a co-host, you'll get your name and links in 2 posts (the post introducing the topic and co host and the post for the linkup), as well as be the 3rd linkup so you'll get great exposure. Plus, you will get your button on both our sidebars for 30 days.

Now if you don't want to do a vlog you can write up a post about the topic/questions and link it up also. But we think you should give a vlog a try.

So without further ado, here are next week topic and questions.

Hormones Out Of Whack

1.30.2013

Blogs are helpful. Let me tell you the many reasons why they are helpful.

  • You can make new friends. Blogger friends. That you may or may not ever actually see in real life. I am lucky enough to have met a handful since I live in Utah (aka. Blogger Capital of the World) but to all my friends that live in a different state, I wish us luck in meeting.
  • I always have someone to talk to. Either responding to a comment or leaving a comment.
  • Sometimes you get free stuff. Which is awesome.
  • My head is a lot more clear because everything I feel cluttered in there goes into a blog post... and then you have to try and decipher it.
  • You can learn a lot from other blogs. Cooking, crafting, fashion, makeup.... all sorts of things.
  • Self esteem boost. Whats up 600 followers that I don't even know but somehow you are reading all about my life... you are awesome.
  • And the final way... which brings me to the importance of my post... a blog can help you realize when your hormones need to be checked.
How did I know my hormones needed to be checked? Besides my insomnia, weight gain, mood swings, and headaches.... my blog helped me figure it out. How you ask? Because I used to be funny. I used to be put into any situation and I could make it funny. Whether it was getting my hair cut, getting an extremely awkward security check, reliving my dating past, or having a claw for a hand. All which are normal. I could make people laugh in my posts. Here. Let me give you an example of the comments I used to get:

That is right people. Even Gentri Lee thinks I am funny. Now these are the comments I get.
In case you didn't get it... that means nothing. Zero. Nada. The big goose egg. I get hardly any comments anymore. And I think it is because I haven't been writing funny things... that is what brought you all in the first time. And I don't write funny things because I am emotional. And why am I emotional? Well. Web MD told me I might need my hormones checked. So what did I do? I got my hormones checked. And my blog was right. My hormones were off balance. So here is to a few pills and hoping that I can get back to the women I once was. A huge shout out to all my followers and blogger friends and of course my blog. Because without all of you... I might not have known to get my hormones checked. Even though I probably would have because this weight gain thing (my insulin levels were off the chart) is CA-RAZY! And I am not liking having gained 20 pounds in the last 8 months.

The Pony Tail Pat Down

1.29.2013

I posted some random facts the other day. People seemed confused by one... so here I am bringing back an old post for those of you that didn't understand.

"But the real reason for this post. I need you all to know how thorough Salt Lake City Airport is on their security. Today I took off my boots, jacket, and sweater and put my electronics and liquids into a separate bin to be scanned. I stepped through a full body scanner that is like an x ray machine. That seems like a pretty clear inspection, right? Right. So I thought I was done. But then the gentleman asked me to stand on this yellow mark and wait for a second. I assumed they were going to double check my bag (its happened before) but then a woman walked up and said, "I need to check your hair.." I looked at her for a second and laughed, she was joking, right? And then she said, "If you just want to turn I can check your ponytail." Okay, she wasn't joking. She gave my pony tail a pat down! My hair is fairly thin, and wasn't even that poofy today, but she gave it a pat down for a second and then said, "Okay! Looks like you are good. I didn't find a switch blade!" So I turned around and said, "Good, I was worried someone hid one in there while I was waiting in line!" Then I turned back around put on my jacket, scarf, and boots, grabbed my liquids and put them back in my suitcase, and packed my computer back in the case and slid it into my carry on.

The exact pony tail I have been sporting since 5:30 AM today... looks dangerous, right?

Did that really just happen? Oh yeah... it did."

That was post 03.22.12 and is still applicable today. Since that day, I have received the pony tail pat down in Salt Lake City, Portland, Ontario, Alberta (that is right... even in CANADA), and a every other place I have flown. I wasn't aware this was procedure now. But I guess they have had one too many women pull a dagger out of their poof. Oh also. Another side note. Never wear sequins when going through airport security... that calls for an entirely different pat down, and I don't feel like reliving that right now.

Deidre

Weekday Wardrobe || Week 2

1.28.2013

Monday
Monday was simple. And by simple I mean it was simply a disaster. This outfit was picked solely based on clothes that were clean and the weather.. and the fact that I hadn't shaved my legs, its winter... come on! So black tights (Target) need a black skirt (Nordstrom), which means black shoes (Famous Footwear). My Most of my tops were dirty so I threw on my white basic (SexyModest) but it is see through so I added a scarf to cover up and a cardigan (Target) for the cold. Done.

Tuesday
I felt like I needed to redeem myself after yesterday's mess. So I went the safe route with my favorite striped skirt (Cotton On) and my grey blazer (thrifted). Now to add a touch of my own flair I put on my loose navy shirt with an exposed zipper instead of buttons (Downeast Basics) and called it good. And of course the nude pumps (Target) you will see all week.

Wednesday
Once again. Business simple. Which seemed to be what a lot of you appreciate, this outfit got the second most amount of likes on Instagram. The undershirt is a white basic (SexyModest) that is the perfect cap sleeve lank for layering underneath my aqua top (Francescas). Paired with my khaki slacks (Old Navy) and of course the nude pumps (Target). I added my silver belt for flair, which is a hand me down from my mother.

Thursday
This outfit was this week's favorite! Which made me happy because I hurried and put it together as I was running late out the door. I threw on my grey sweater (KMart) and light grey cable knit (Gap) with my mustard skirt (Soel) and nude heels (Target), but I didn't love it. So I added my cheetah print belt (Target) and my turquoise bubble necklace (GroopDealz). Apparently that is the winning combination. Looking for some more inspiration, what colors would you like to see together?

Friday
Back to Friday. A little more relaxed on my wardrobe today, nothing spectacular. Just a skirt (SexyModest) and a top (Gap) with my ever so popular this week nude pumps (Target). If you are looking for a good, comfy skirt check out the stretch skirt at SexyModest. It comes in virtually any color, it is a reasonable price, and is perfect with any outfit. The skirt is one size fits all.

[CLOSED] Datevitation || Product Review & Giveaway

1.25.2013

I hate being left out. I really do. And for a long time I was. Because everyone I know was doing a product review and a giveaway for Datevitation. BUT NOT ANYMORE!
Because TODAY I am doing a product review and a giveaway as well. I am on the Datevitation bandwagon. And I could not be more excited about it. Mostly because I don't feel the need to enter every single giveaway for the coupon book anymore... my own is on the way! "Say goodbye to pre-packaged love coupon books! We are the first and only totally custom coupon book service with the tools for you to create a truly one-of-a-kind gift for your special someone. Our library contains hundreds of date ideas from simple gestures of love (e.g., stargazing or cuddling) to adventurous and exotic ideas for memorable dates (e.g., skydiving or scuba-diving). You get to pick the dates that best compliment your relationship." First up, pros ans cons of my ordering experience.
Cons:
  • There were not any real cons... the whole experience was simple enough. Although.. I had a hard time figuring out which dates to put in because there are so many options. But that isn't really a con at all, that is a good thing, right?
  • The one thing that is a bummer is a traditional book only comes with 5 coupons. Small number, but pages after that are only $1 each.
Pros:
  • There are a ton of options to pick from. Have in mind before hand what you want your book to entail. Mine is full of a lot of pampering.
  • The illustrations are super cute.
  • Ordering is simple. Pick the coupons you like. Put them in order. Pick a cover. Write a message. Pay and you are done!
  • You can change the message for the illustration or use the generic one. Easy to customize.
  • It is an economical gift. Books normally start at just $20. But as a special treat for my followers, I have a promo code worth $10! Just enter ‘SKINNYS’ at check out for half off your book.
  • They ship quick. But, if you want this for Valentine's Day you MUST order by February 3rd. That is the order cut-off day for a holiday shipment guarantee.
Sadly I just ordered my book and I don't have it yet. So I am sharing photos from Datevitation so you can get a better idea of the product and what you could be winning. If you are really interested and want to know other blogs that are hosting a giveaway right now too, let me know! And I will send you their way. I entered every single giveaway I could until I joined the host a giveaway bandwagon. How could I not!? These things are cute and super easy for a customized gift!

I cannot WAIT to get my book. I want to tell you what is all in it and everything. But that will have to wait until after Valentine's Day. Because I might already be ruining part of Adam's present by showing you this... hopefully baseball is keeping him so busy he misses this post. FINGERS CROSSED! And fingers crossed to you that you will win the prize!

Love,
Deidre

PS. The winner to the 63String giveaway is Mikyla Arrington! Email me in the next 24 hours or a new winner is picked!

Grub Tour || Cranky Chuckie's

1.23.2013

Adam and I decided to try a new restaurant last weekend. We had a groupon for Cranky Chuckie's in Provo, UT. It was a place neither of us had heard about... but we have been in the mood to try new eating places lately. Cranky Chuckie's is located above Ruby Thai over by condo row and J Dawgs. At first when we pulled up I said to Adam, "How the heck are we supposed to get up there?!" I couldn't see a stairwell.. maybe because I was looking on the wrong side. Adam pointed and said, "Probably that door..." And sure enough, right in the middle of the building was a door with a sign that said Dave's Cranky Chuckie's. I just smiled and said, "Oh... yeah... that C should have given it away." Anyway... up the stairs we go. As soon as you get to the top of the stairs you take a right and enter... What the heck? Am I in Seattle now?! I love it. The atmosphere is really laid back, the walls are all painted a dark blue, there is some Red Hot Chili Peppers (at least when we first walked in) playing, a small stage (for an open mic night someday), and overall it seems like a best kept secret. The whole atmosphere makes me feel like I just walked into some little hipster secret in Seattle. So great. I wont lie, at first it was a little awkward because there isn't a hostess directly when you walk in. you have to walk in a few steps towards the bar to find someone to seat you. The night we went was fairly busy and so the waitress was running around a bunch. Either way. We got seated (if you go on a weekend make a reservation!) right away.

Well. First things first. I love the simplicity of the black table cloths. But even more. I love the glasses. They were so tall. And so fun. I drink a lot of water, so it was nice to not be needing a refill every three seconds. The menu is pretty simple, but each item has it's own unique twist. Adam and I didn't take much time to decide what we wanted. Neither of us were super hungry, so we can't smaller items. But one thing is for sure. I will be trying the meatloaf next time I go!

I had the Open Faced Turkey Sandwich. It was much better than I expected. Imagine this. Sourdough bread, turkey, a sort of pesto-like sauce, cheese, tomato, and lettuce. Sounds good, right? Well. Then top that with a farm fresh fried egg. It was one of the best sandwiches I have ever tasted. And it filled me up perfectly. The fries were great too. I am not a big ketchup person. It is fry sauce or nothing. But I could eat these fries without any sauce, which I appreciate in a french fry.

Adam had the sausage and mashed potatoes. Here is his review, "The mashed potatoes with sausage at Cranky Chuckies was completely different than what I expected. It turned out to be delicious. When we were seated, a couple next to us was eating the mashed potatoes and sausage. I had already looked at the menu but when I saw what they were eating, I decided to choose what they were eating. The mashed potatoes had pineapple in it, which caught me off guard at first, but turned out to be a nice addition. The serving size was large enough to where I couldn't finish it. I will return to Chunky Chuckies and I will get the mashed potatoes and sausage."

So there you have it people. If you want to try new twists on great food and feel like you are in Seattle at some trendy restaurant with tall glasses. Head to Cranky Chuckie's.

Love,
The Skinnys

Instagram Chains and Random Facts

1.22.2013

Ten things on a Tuesday. Because I keep getting tagged in the "random fact" chain on Instagram (@lovetheskinnys). I caved once... but now I will just give you ten things on the blog. I know. Ten. I am an over-achiever to the highest form. But... I know some of you actually follow me on Instagram, so I am giving you a little but more of me. And this picture from my childhood... Yep. Seems about right.

1. I am officially a juicer. One glass a day to get all the goods I need. Stay tuned for a recipe or two.
2. I prefer anything spandex. And most days you will find me wearing leggings.
3. I always get a ponytail pat down when I go through airport security.
4. I was recently given a position on the Miss Idaho Board. I am the new social media chair. Which is great since I am really sad about not competing anymore.
5. I dream of being a root beer connoisseur. Maybe once my year of no soda ends?
6. I dislike Walmart.
7. I am a tap dancer by trade and a lyrical dancer by spirit.
8. I like to drive really fast.
9. I love chocolate covered pomegranate seeds so much that Adam has to hide them from me so I won't eat a whole bag over a few days. Portion control people.
10. I still have a collection of Beanie Babies under my bed in Idaho.

Love,
Deidre

Workday Wardrobe || Week 1

1.21.2013

With my new job I don't get a lot of days to be trendy. I can't wear a lot of the "in" stuff to work because I need to dress professionally. So I have taken that on as my own personal challenge. To be business professional and bring in my own style. And what better way to keep that challenge in mind than to share it with you? You can follow along daily on my instagram account (@lovetheskinnys) but every week I will post last week's outfits! So without further ado...

 Monday

I wanted to wear my stretch striped skirt (Cotton On) and my feather shirt (Cotton On)... but when I put it on the first thing I though was it looked too casual. The shirt has a high low hem and is fairly loose fitting. So to class it up a bit I added a camel colored blazer (Forever 21) and my tan pumps (Target).

Tuesday

With the freezing cold weather... I needed pants. And I was feeling like taking it back to the basic of black and grey  I wore my black skinny slacks (Gap) with traditional black heels (Famous Footwear). On top I put on a few items that would add style while remaining professional. A striped sweater (Forever 21) and a grey cardigan (Gap) with some grey pearls (Forever 21) to add some dimension.

Wednesday

After pants the day before I was in the mood for something simple and girly. I wore a dusty rose bow top (Forever 21) with a purple scrunchy skirt (Sexy Modest: the most comfy skirt I have ever purchased. I have it in two colors) and nude pumps (Target).

Thursday

Back to basics with a twist. Adam got my some great tops for work for Christmas so I made sure I wore one last week! On bottom we have black tights and my black and nude pumps (TJMaxx) with my scrunchy skirt in nude (SexyModest). On top we have a cream button up with cap sleeves (Forever 21: Adam picked this one out!)... but it was too cold for cap sleeves so I threw on my slate cardigan (Target). Then a statement necklace (Forever 21) for some variety.

Friday

Casual Friday. Which means men don't have to wear ties. But I can already wear pants... so I decided to test out my new bright pants to see the reaction. I was okay to wear them, and I am thrilled. My mom picked out this entire outfit for a Christmas gift. Bright pants (Old Navy), blue undershirt (Downeast Basics), print cardigan (Target), and statement necklace. This outfit was a huge hit in the office and in social media.

So there you have it. My thought process behind all my workday outfits! Stay tuned for more and follow along on instagram (@lovetheskinnys) to catch my outfits daily.

Love,
Deidre

[CLOSED] 63 Strings || Giveaway

1.18.2013

I am going to say something creepy, but it isn't that creepy... because we all do it. So the other day my friend that I haven't seen in years popped up on my newsfeed. And I thought to myself, "I haven't seen her for awhile... what is she up to?" So I went and face-stalked her. For probably longer than I should admit. But that is okay. Because I am completely caught up on her life after looking through all her photos and having a little witty banter back and forth on a wall post. Either way... while I was browsing I found out that she now has a very cute Etsy shop. And today she is here to share it with you... and by share I mean a discount and a giveaway!
--------------------------------------
