An Outfit for Everything

5.11.2016

In the summer I travel a lot - trips to see Adam wherever he is stationed for baseball, trips for Miss Idaho things, sometimes a blog conference or two, always some drives to my hometown. Basically I look for any excuse to stay busy, especially on the weekends since I am husbandless during that time. Because of all my trips, I am always looking for ways to pack light. I don't love checking a bag, I prefer to carry it on and off - which means I need to find pieces of clothing that will translate to every vacation scenario you can think of and multiple scenarios per location to save on space. For example - something that will work well in the dry heat of Utah or in the humidity of Alabama but will also be able to double for a day out in the sun, a day of shopping, or going to church. If I can find one thing for all three of those events then I know I can wear it at least twice during the trip. Last year it was flowy tunics that could double with shorts and skirts - this year I wanted a simple dress to layer and accessories differently. And I found it at Olive Avenue.

First up is a more dressy take on the tee dress. I decided to pair it with a hat and heels. I am a big fan of traveling with at least one hat and one pair of heels on any trip. You never know when you might be trapped in the sun and need some shade, be running late and need to throw on a hat, or grab some heels for a fancier meal. I always go with neutrals so it can be worn with whatever.

Dress: Olive Avenue
Shoes: Target

Okay – so I threw on the hat and the heels for this look. This is something that I would be able to wear for brunch with the girls out on the patio. Or if I was heading out shopping but had a lunch date right before or after. I could easily remove the hat to dress it up a tiny bit more for church or a dinner out that is a little more dressed up. But with all that being said – I could trade the dress in for something a little more casual by swapping out just one accessory and different shoes.

Dress: Olive Avenue
Chambray: Downeast Basics
Shoes: Converse

For the more dressed down version of this look I took off the hat and the heels and traded it in for a chambray and some sneaks. This is a simpler look that I would wear out running errands, to a baseball game, or to a quick lunch with Adam before taking him to the field. So with just five items – a dress, two pairs of shoes, and two accessories – I was able to create two different looks. But it doesn’t have to stop there, and that is what I love about this dress! I could put the chambray on and tie it up to give the dress a totally different feel and remove the floral baseball tee portion completely for a dressed up variety, or I could put it on and leave it down and unbuttoned for the same removal and a more casual feel. Tie it up, wear the hat, and put on the heels is a whole different look. Basically what I am getting at is I could pack these five items and be covered for about 3 days worth of events all because of this dress. And beyond that, it is light enough to keep me living the good like whether I am in humidity or a desert. I call this a win, win, win and I am loving having it in my summer packing list. What sort of things do you look for when packing for vacations?

Splurge and Save || Red Pants

Red pants have always been a favorite of mine. But since I am a BYU girl I have to be careful when I wear them... Can't be seen around town in Ute red - especially when baseball is going on. I love to pair my red jeans up with a black tee. And then when I need a little more I go all metallic with my accessories for that rockstar feeling. Mint seems to be sticking around a lot longer than everyone expected. So I had to use it in an outfit before it became overplayed and overdone. Stripes of course and for a little style the levi vest. I love that a levi vest can add edge and spunk to any outfit. Then neutrals all the way around after that so the outfit doesn't become too much. The hometown summer excitement is starting to wear off which can only mean one thing. It is road trip time. When I roadtrip I like to pack light. Jeans that I can wear two days in a row and shoes that go with everything. This look does wonders for the "lets hit the road and look fabulous doing it". My leather jacket is a summer go to. The cheetah flats are a neutral. Just pack a few different tops and belts and any summer road trip becomes your oyster. Head over to my Polyvore profile for details on where to get these items.

Don't be a beach bum in those old duds. The easiest way to add girly flair to any beach outfit is with a hat. And floppy hats are all the rage right now. Throw on your one piece with a simple dress - crochet has been catching my eye lately - and add your movie star sunglasses and a summer vibe hat. Insta beach babe. Looking good! Head over to my Polyvore profile for details on where to get these items.

Maxi skirts - the sweatpants of dresses. And so perfect for the summer heat. A lot of us baseball wives started taking to maxi skirts during games instead of pants or shorts. They are lot more comfortable for sitting at a double header. But in general you can dress them up or dress them down. Pair it with a lace shirt and a hat for the day. Then ditch the hat and wear some jewelry in the evening. All day outfit in just one quick switch. Head over to my Polyvore profile for details on where to get these items.

I love fashion. But even more than that I love reasonably priced fashion. I live on a newlywed budget in a town with not many high end stores. And because of that I have a growing love for discounts, dupes, and anything that will save a dollar or two. When I see women in magazines and on blogs with incredible outfits for an incredibly high price I go into mission mode. I know I can find anything expensive for a REASONABLE price without much of the stylistic compromise. So here I am. Splurge and Save with some of my favorite styles.

Starting with a summer date night outfit. White pants and the classic chambray paired with a neon purse. Throw on some patterned shoes and generic jewelry and you have an outfit to catch the eyes of everyone. Head over to my Polyvore profile for details on where to get these items.

Go Red For Women

2.08.2013

Did you know that it is Heart Health Awareness Month? Here are some facts about heart disease in women.

"Do you know what causes heart disease in women? What about the survival rate? Or whether women of all ethnicities share the same risk? The fact is: Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute! But it doesn’t affect all women alike, and the warning signs for women aren’t the same in men. What’s more: These facts only begin to scratch the surface.

There are a several misconceptions about heart disease in women, and they could be putting you at risk. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health for this very reason. In this section, we’ll arm you with the facts and dispel some myths – because the truth can no longer be ignored."
In honor of this cause, I participated in National Wear Red Day! And what better way than with some red pants... and at night red lips! But that part isn't pictured.
